Adjustable Bed Q&A
An adjustable bed uses built-in motors to raise or lower different sections of the mattress platform. This means you can lift your head, upper body or legs to find a position that feels more comfortable and supportive, rather than lying completely flat.
Adjustamatic beds include two key features designed to enhance comfort. The first is Zero Gravity Support, which gently raises both the head and legs to mimic the posture astronauts use during liftoff. This position helps redistribute pressure, improve circulation and reduce swelling in the legs. The second is NHC Cyclo-Therapy®, a medical-grade vibration system built into many of their beds. It provides targeted massage to the back and leg areas to help ease muscle aches and stiffness.
While many standard adjustable beds offer only basic head or foot elevation, Adjustamatic beds are designed to provide a more therapeutic and personalised sleep experience focused on comfort, support and overall wellbeing.
Yes, adjustable bed frames can be good for your back when used correctly. They allow you to raise or lower the head and foot sections of the bed to find a position that supports the natural curve of your spine, helping to relieve pressure on the lower back and improve circulation.
Adjustable beds can also help reduce discomfort associated with conditions like sciatica or herniated discs by promoting better spinal alignment. While they’re not a cure for chronic back problems, their ability to offer customised support and reduce pressure points makes them a beneficial option for many people with back pain.
An adjustable bed provides enhanced comfort, flexibility, and support by allowing users to raise or lower different sections of the bed, such as the head and feet, to suit their preferred position. This helps relieve pressure on the spine, improve circulation, and reduce issues like back pain, swelling, and snoring.
Many models also feature built-in massage functions and “Zero Gravity” positioning to promote relaxation, aid recovery, and encourage more restful sleep. Adjustable beds can also make it easier for people with mobility issues to get in and out of bed safely and independently.
Yes, adjustable beds can be a great choice for side sleepers when set up correctly. With independent head and foot adjustment, you can fine-tune the position to support your spine more naturally and reduce pressure on your shoulder and hip.
For many side sleepers, raising the head slightly or lifting the knees can help improve alignment and relieve common pressure points. This is in line with general sleep guidance, which recommends contouring support for the shoulder and hip when sleeping on your side.
The key to getting the best results is choosing a mattress that works well with an adjustable base and adjusting the bed to suit your preferred sleeping posture. When these elements are matched, an adjustable bed can provide a more comfortable and supportive night’s sleep for side sleepers.
To adjust the height of your bed frame, start by checking whether your bed has a built-in hi–low function. Many Adjustamatic bases include this feature, which allows the entire frame to be raised or lowered using the electric controls.
If your bed does not have a hi–low function, the height can usually be changed by altering the legs or by adding suitable risers beneath each leg.
Whichever method you use, it is important to ensure your mattress is compatible with the adjustable frame. The mattress should be flexible and the right thickness so that the bed operates safely and smoothly.
Yes! All of our adjustable beds feature independent motors, enabling you to adjust the head or foot of the bed to suit your personal comfort.
Our dual or twin beds feature individual controls on each side, allowing you and your partner to find the perfect position independently. This feature is available on beds queen size or larger. Simply check the specifications of the bed you’re interested in.
If you’d like more details or aren’t sure which bed is right for you, please contact us. Our team is happy to guide you and answer any questions.

Adjustamatic Mattress Q&A
An orthopaedic mattress is a specially designed mattress that provides firm, targeted support to the body’s joints, spine, and pressure points to promote correct posture and reduce discomfort.
Our AirFlow® orthopaedic mattress features high-density foam borders and durable pocket springs that work together to deliver consistent support while maintaining comfort and freedom of movement.
This combination helps evenly distribute body weight, relieve pressure on sensitive areas, and ensure proper spinal alignment, making it particularly beneficial for users of adjustable beds or those seeking enhanced back and joint support.
The best mattresses for adjustable beds are designed to bend and move smoothly with the base while still providing consistent support and comfort. Our AirFlow® mattress is a good example. It combines medical-grade memory foam, compact pocket springs and a ventilated surface to improve airflow and relieve pressure.
This flexible construction allows the mattress to adjust easily with the bed frame without affecting spinal alignment or durability. In general, hybrid or memory foam mattresses with good breathability and a supportive core work particularly well with adjustable beds, offering both adaptability and long-term comfort.
You don’t necessarily need special bedding for adjustable beds, but it’s important to choose sheets and covers that fit the bed’s size, depth, and flexibility. Adjustable bed mattresses, such as airflow or pressure-relieving types, are designed to move and contour with the bed base and often come in longer lengths (such as 6′3″ or 6′6″).
Standard bedding can still be used if it matches these dimensions, but fitted sheets with extra depth, stretchable fabric, or elasticated corners are recommended to stay in place and maintain comfort when the bed is raised or lowered.
Orthopaedic mattresses are generally firmer than typical mattresses, but “orthopaedic” does not automatically mean extra-hard; rather they aim for firmer support suited to back and joint health.
The best orthopaedic mattress is the AirFlow® Orthopaedic Mattress, designed specifically for adjustable beds. It combines medical-grade memory foam with high-density pocket springs to deliver tailored support and pressure relief.
Its unique “egg-box” surface improves air circulation and comfort, while the advanced airflow technology helps the mattress cool within fifteen minutes of body contact, promoting a more restful and supportive sleep experience.
Adjustable Chair Q&A
A riser recliner chair is an electrically-powered armchair designed to both help the user sit back and relax and assist them to safely stand up. It features a motorised base that slowly lifts and tilts the chair forward so that the user is raised into a standing position, combined with a recline mechanism that allows the backrest and footrest to adjust for comfort.
A riser recliner chair uses a built-in motorised mechanism to safely transition the user between sitting, reclining and rising to a standing position. When switching to the “rise” mode the chair tilts forward and lifts from its base so the user is elevated to a near-standing posture with minimal effort and strain on joints.
In “recline” mode the backrest lowers and the footrest elevates (either together or independently depending on the model) to provide a comfortable, supported position for resting.
A riser recliner chair is for anyone who finds it difficult or tiring to get in and out of a regular arm-chair, particularly older people, those with reduced mobility or joint/back-pain issues, and who could benefit from a powered assist that gently lifts and tilts the seat to help standing, as well as reclining and elevating the legs for comfort and support.
Choosing the right riser recliner starts with making sure the chair fits you comfortably. Check simple things like seat height, depth and width so your feet rest flat on the floor, your hips sit back in the seat, and your knees are supported without pressure. A well-fitted chair should feel natural and supportive from the moment you sit down.
Next, think about how you’d like the chair to move.
- Single-motor chairs raise the footrest and recline the back together.
- Dual-motor chairs let you move each one independently, giving you more choice in finding your ideal position.
It also helps to consider style and practicality. Make sure the chair has enough space to recline fully, and choose a fabric or leather that suits your home and lifestyle.
Finally, buy from a trusted provider who offers safety-tested products, a clear warranty, and help with delivery and installation. A riser recliner is an investment in your comfort, so it’s worth choosing one that’s built to last and properly supported.
All of our riser recliner chairs are manufactured in Britain at our specialised factory in North Wales, where we have been crafting high-quality chairs for over 60 years. All our products are made to order, including production time; most chairs are delivered within 4 to 6 weeks of ordering.

Yes, we can remove your old bed or furniture and arrange for it to be collected. There is a charge for this service, and the collection does not always take place on the same day.
